You will play a pivotal role in helping ensure everything runs smoothly (even when it's incredibly busy) delivering the best care to our patients from the start as one fab #TeamED. Sound like a challenge you can rise to?

Our patients aren't with us for a long time, but we give them all we have to ensure that they receive the best possible love and care whilst at their most scared whilst they wait to be diagnosed and treated.

We have two amazing Emergency Departments, Preston and Chorley all working as one amazing #TeamED - it's exciting as staff get to be flexible across both locations, learning loads of new skills along the way. We can promise you it's definitely not going to be dull! 12 hour shifts are our norm and the feedback we get from our fab team members is that they really value them and the work life balance they bring when they are not at the forefront of emergency patient care they have time to spend with family and friends.

Main duties of the job

To be a leader who is dynamic and strives to lead by example who has experience of working in a busy ED department who can bring their own knowledge and experience to our already existing team and is ready to hit the ground running. You will be in a position to influence and effect emergency care as we continue to develop our innovative ways of working.

To liaise with the Team to promote high levels of patient care.

To be at the forefront of the shift leading by example, promoting patient care and safety .

being a mentor to the rest of the team and cascading your knowledge and experience

Work alongside the Doctors and senior Sisters to enable patient flow with a positive experience for every patient whilst maintaining the safety of patients and staff

About us

We are a forward thinking department with a real emphasis on staff development and training - we have our own clinical educator who works across both sites. Our consultants are on duty every day and offer years of experience and will provide training to nursing staff as well as medical staff covering an assortment of topics to ensure you are always on top of your game and up-to-speed with the very latest tools to help you do the job you love - the relationship between our medical and nursing staff is second to none.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Assist and support the Senior Sister/Charge nurse in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes

Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation

Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff

Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines.

Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.

Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care

Promote provision of patient education and health promotion

Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals

Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness

To participate in education and training of junior staff.

Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing

  • Trained in Manchester Triage

Desirable

  • NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
  • ALS/APLS trained
