Main duties of the job

You will be delivering front line library services, welcoming staff and students into our spaces and helping them to find the information that they need when they need it. We pride ourselves on excellence in customer service, providing vital support to users of the library. Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Exchange information with all levels of Trust staff and students, including training in the use of e-Resources, the library catalogue and the Trusts intranet and internet sites.
  • Communicate with local, regional and national libraries and external agencies by phone, post or e-mail to deliver services.
  • Deal with customers face-to-face, by telephone, letter and e-mail escalating enquiries to senior library staff where required.
  • When required, provide a basic library induction to individuals and groups.
  • Be involved in the Library & Information Health Network Northwest (LIHNN) and attend meetings when appropriate.
  • Keep up to date with library and information sector developments; participating in professional activities and attending training courses as part of CPD.
  • Assist with training and induction for new Library Assistants as requested by the Senior Library Assistant.
  • Participate in the PDPR Process as a reviewee and undertake learning and development opportunities, as agreed with your line manager.
  • Move and handle equipment/materials, using agreed moving and handling procedures
  • Deliver day to day Library services including enquiries, registrations, circulation, shelving and other routine tasks.
  • Provide inter-library loans / document supplies to library users from local, North-west and national sources and deliver a reciprocal service to other health libraries.
  • Assist senior library staff with stock management and decision making.
  • Support customers using IT equipment (e.g. computers, laptops, Ipads, printers etc.) and online resources; troubleshooting technical problems as required.
  • Search electronic resources for journal references, full-text journal articles, and other information as required.
  • Handle money and ensure security of cash.
  • Responsible for the general upkeep, cleaning and tidying of library spaces and stock.
  • As required, participate in the collation and dissemination of various current awareness activities.
  • Ensure accuracy of data on the Library Management System
  • Ensure library users are registered in line with Library procedures and the data is stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
  • Participate in the collection of library statistics e.g. number of interlibrary loans and assist with service audits e.g. surveys.
  • Develop guides, posters, displays and other promotional materials using a range of Microsoft Office or online products e.g. Word, Publisher, Canva etc.
  • Assist with publications for social media.
  • Assist with marketing projects and participate in marketing and outreach events e.g. stands, promotional days etc.
  • Help co-ordinate promotional displays, highlighting national awareness campaigns and local initiatives.
  • Assist with evaluating the effectiveness of Marketing and Promotional strategies e.g. surveys, feedback etc.

The Government have announced their intention to introduce the need for mandatory COVID vaccinations for all frontline patient facing roles (and those staff working in patient areas). This will come into effect from 1stApril 2022.
