We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic Band 6 midwives who are keen to drive the postnatal inpatient service forward at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The role will involve all aspects of postnatal inpatient care, providing care to women, babies and their families during their stay on the maternity ward.
In this role you will act as the shift lead, ensuring safe care is maintained. As part of this role you will also be responsible for supporting junior colleagues and assisting the postnatal ward manager to ensure that high standards are maintained.

In this role you will support the Postnatal Ward manager with the oversight and management of the Postnatal Ward, whilst also offering support and guidance to junior midwives and learners in this complex area.

Our teams have seen positive feedback from women and families, a significant increase in the number of women choosing homebirth and birth in our freestanding birth centre. Midwives are confident to provide midwifery care in all areas of the service.The maternity service is committed to transformation and has implemented the BadgerNet end to end electronic records system, we also have a number of progressive continuity of carer teams.
Duties to include, but not be limited to:
- Assist and support the Postnatal Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
- Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
- As shift lead, be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
- Ensure a high standard of Midwifery care is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet women's needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines
- Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
- Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
- Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
- Promote provision of education and health promotion
- Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
- Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
