Job summary
We are seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Anaesthetics.
This post forms part of the Lancashire teaching hospitals Overseas Registrar Development and Recruitment Program (ORDeR Program).
This is a program which is recognised by the GMC and to which (if required) the trust can sponsor successful candidates to gain their GMC registration through trust sponsorship.

Our Anaesthetic Directorate is led by a team supporting the perioperative model recommended by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. This comprises a CD, deputy CD and associate CDs for preoperative, intraoperative and immediate postoperative care.
We provide many tertiary services including, Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, Vascular, upper GI, major oncology surgery, maxilla facial, Plastics and Burns. The directorate also houses a 24 bedded Critical Care Unit for all of the above specialties. The unit is soon to be expanded to 34 beds. Critical Care has an extensive national research portfolio.
Main duties of the job
You will be offered experience in the range of subspecialties we cover, a regular commitment to medical education in a variety of areas such as undergraduate medical students and simulation at Lancashire Simulation Centre and the option of a regular commitment to our state of the art clinical research facility. There will be a combination of teaching lists and solo lists with nearby supervision.
You will:

- Provide an Anaesthetic service across the Trust.
- Participate in the trainee anaesthetic rota on both hospital sites with additional cover during colleagues' absence.
- Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.
- Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
- Exercise the freedom to assist in development of specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.
- Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
- Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the theatre environment.
- Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
- Willingness to be involved with undergraduate education is essential.
