Specialty Doctor - General Adult Psychiatry - Sovereign Unit

Job summary

This is a post based at Sovereign Unit (General Adult acute male ward) which is a 20 bedded unit having a fulltime Consultant with 3 resident doctors. This postholder will work with the Consultant, Resident Doctors and the ward MDT (nursing staff, psychology, SW, OT, healthcare assistants, activity workers). The postholder would be expected to see patients aged 18 and over referred to the inpatient ward. This would include history taking, mental state examination, formulation, risk assessment and devising management plans.

The case load includes inpatients referred from the community. The postholder will always have active support and supervision from the Consultant attached to the team in discharging his role and responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Roles and Responsibilities:

o Assessments of patient presenting to the clinic - history, mental state, risk and formulation of management plan.o Liaising with the Consultant in dealing with the aboveo To attend regular MDT/ward MDT meetings and supporting other members of the team.o Liaison with other services, such as the psychiatric inpatient units, home based treatment team, SCMHT and other teams that may be involved in the delivery of clinical care of mental health liaison team patients.o Liaison with external agencies such as GPs and acute medical staff.o Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively in a timely manner on the electronic patient notes.o Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.o Be available to cover the daytime (0900-1700) junior doctor on call should there be a gap in the rota, subject to other clinical commitments.

o Can be involved in clinical governance related activities such as audits and quality improvement projects.o Provide support to the members of the MDT within the unito Providing clinical leadership to the ward MDT in the absence of the Consultant and with appropriate senior supervision.o Providing support and guidance to the ward resident doctors.
