Named Nurse Safeguarding Children

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative and highly motivated individual to join the GMMH Corporate Safeguarding Team as the Trusts Named Nurse for Child Safeguarding. The post will be a Secondment Cover/Fixed Term Contract until the 30th September 2026.

The postholder will lead on the child safeguarding agenda and be responsible for ensuring that the Trust carries out its statutory duties in relation to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

The post holder must hold a current nursing qualification and have demonstrable post registration experience in child safeguarding.

Main duties of the job

  • To share learning from both national and local case reviews, complaints, incidents or near misses related to the safeguarding of children.
  • To provide specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, that is consistent with the requirements of the Children Acts 1989 and 2004 and related guidance and relevant Local Safeguarding Children's Partnerships.
  • To continually raise the profile and staff awareness of child safeguarding issues for staff who work with adults, children and young people affected by mental health and/or substance misuse issues, including Tier 4 CAMHS services.
  • To promote effective practice that enables staff to identify child safeguarding concerns and respond appropriately.
  • To operationally manage and provide leadership to the Deputy Child Safeguarding Lead.
  • FGM Lead for the Trust.
  • To support the Named Nurse/Professional for Adult Safeguarding to ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • To promote and support the Serious Youth Violence agenda across the Trust in conjunction with system partners
