Assistant Psychologist

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Assistant Psychologist to work across two of our rehabilitation settings for individuals with long term and complex mental health needs. The individual will work across both a High Dependency Unit (Copeland Ward, Meadowbrook Unit) working with both males and females and an all-male Community Rehabilitation/Step Down Unit (Bramley Street).

The post is full time with working hours split equally across the two settings. You will receive support and supervision from a Qualified Psychologist and will have the opportunity to engage in regular peer supervision with the other Assistant Psychologists in the Division.

The successful person will work as part of two established multi-disciplinary teams. They willbe required to undertake a range of activities under the guidance and supervision of qualified Psychologist. These include assessments, direct clinical work (including individual, family and group work), report writing, attending meetings, assisting in projects and data collection.

Main duties of the job

- To keep appropriate records, by adding to patient's clinical notes andelectronic patient information system, and to provide written reports ofassessment data and clinical intervention as required, in accordance withteam, service and professional standards.

- The post holder will liaise with other staff of the relevant multidisciplinaryteams and with Psychology/Mental Health Services and other agencies asappropriate under guidance from the supervising psychologist.

- Under supervision, to perform psychological assessments of clients withinthe inpatient service, assist in the analysis and interpretation of data fromvarious sources (e.g. psychological and neuropsychological tests, selfreport measures, rating scales, direct and indirect observation, interviews)with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.

- To assist qualified therapy staff in the delivery of aspects of specialistpsychological interventions with complex mental health problems, includingwork with individuals, families and carers.

Essential

  • An upper second-class honours degree (or higher) in Psychology or lower second-class honours with MSc. in Psychology
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable

  • Further training in relevant areas of professional psychology e.g. Cognitive Therapy, Motivational interviewing

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist within the NHS.
  • Experience with working well within a clinical supervised relationship.
