Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Qualified Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist to join our specialist service for people experiencing a first episode of psychosis as a Care Co-ordinator.

Based on The Department of Health implementation guidelines, Early Intervention Services aim to;

  • Reduce the stigma associated with psychosis.
  • Improve professional and lay awareness of the symptoms of psychosis and the need for early assessment and intervention.
  • Reduce the length of time young people remain undiagnosed and untreated.
  • Develop meaningful engagement, provide evidence-based interventions and promote recovery during the early stage of illness.
  • Staff training that ensures that all staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide the NICE concordant packages of care and Best Practice recommendations.
  • Increase stability in the lives of service users, facilitate development and personal fulfilment.
  • Provide a user-led service, i.e. a seamless service available for those from age 14 to 65 years (on acceptance) that effectively integrates child, adolescent and adult mental health services and works in partnership with primary care, education, social services, youth and other services.
  • Ensure that care is transferred thoughtfully and effectively at the end of involvement.

Main duties of the job

We require a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in providing evidence-based interventions for young people who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. The successful applicant will be required to use sound clinical and risk assessment skills, to complete interventions to the high standards that we pride ourselves on offering.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • A qualification in Mental Health Nursing (RMN, CPN), OR Social Work OR Occupational Therapy Registration with the regulatory body as applicable; NMC, HCPC

Desirable

  • Evidence of robust continued professional development including training in relevant subjects.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working in the NHS either within a volunteer or paid post. Experience of working with people with complex presentations and high rates of co-morbidity. Experience of work within a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of working with people with psychosis & mental health difficulties such as depression and anxiety.
  • Experience of working within a CMHT / EIS setting; managing a caseload of service users and completing assessments with people who have been referred into the service.
