Job summary
Greater Manchester Mental Health places great emphasis on Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) / Lived Experience (LEx). Underpinning everything within the Culture of Care programme is the commitment to Lived Experience leadership, co-production, and collaboration.
This post is required to help develop and implement the 12 Culture of Care standards within the programme. The post holder is required to have excellent communication skills and will be required to speak to a wide range of individuals and organisations daily.
The role of Lived Experience Lead has been developed specifically for people who have lived of experience of mental health or a dual diagnosis such as mental health and substance misuse / Learning Difficulties / Autism to support those within the Culture of Care programme to use their experiences and voice to ensure the guiding principles (Autism-informed, trauma informed and Anti-racist) of the Culture of Care remain at the forefront of the work.
The post holder will be based in the Knowsley Building at Prestwich Hospital. Project teams are based in Prestwich and Wythenshawe Hospitals. The post holder will be required to travel occasionally to South Manchester (Wythenshawe Hospital). Occasionally, the post holder will be invited to attend meetings further afield where necessary, for example network sessions in Birmingham, Liverpool, or Newcastle (expenses available for all travel).
Main duties of the job
- Create links with existing PPI groups and patient partners, and other local and national PPI organisations, enhancing patient involvement and engagement in quality improvement.
- Liaise with and develop existing relationships with patients, carers and members of the public, local organisations, third sector organisations, faith organisations and other stakeholders in the local health and social care environment, to support them in getting involved in Culture of Care activities.
- To act as a positive role model to those people using our services and your colleagues, demonstrating GMMH values within your work.
- To establish supportive and respectful relationships with people using our services within professional boundaries.
- To model personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy, and hopefulness (via the telling of own recovery story if appropriate) to inspire and instil confidence in peers.
- To support service users to identify and overcome issues they are facing on the ward and elicit and share solutions they would find beneficial to improve the experience they are having on the ward.
- To support service users to complete the Patient CARE survey, the Patient Experience survey, and the Carer survey, to ensure accurate data and reporting on the Culture of Care project.
- Motivate and encourage other service users and carers to get involved in the Culture of Care programme.
