Job summary

We are extending our nursing team on Chapman Barker Unit due to additional funding.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. He/she is designated to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior staff. The Post Holder is expected to supervise the junior staff and assist in meeting the training and development needs of the ward / department.

Main duties of the job

Working with patients who have complex physical and mental health problems in the context of addiction at our specialist Drug and Alcohol detox unit.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care with minimum supervision.

To actively participate in supervision

Carry out clinical procedures in accordance with Trust Policies including any extended role practices as required, after appropriate training and assessment.

Assist the Medical Staff in patient treatments and participate in reviews as appropriate.

Administer medication in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.

Ensure the Mental Health Act 1983 is adhered to.

Have insight into client perceptions and be able to empathise.

To assist in the establishment and maintenance of effective systems of communications with all disciplines and agencies.

Facilitate effective communication between patients and relevant others.

To respect patients' rights to take part in decisions about their care.

To work proactively with and support families and carers

To assist in the formal setting, delivery and evaluation of agreed standards of care.

Adhere to quality statements, policies and procedures.

To protect all confidential information concerning patients obtained in the course of professional practice and make disclosures only within agreed procedures.
