Job summary

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated pharmacist for the role of Deputy Director of Pharmacy.

The postholder will have responsibility for the following Care Groups within Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust:

  • Wigan & Bolton
  • Specialist
  • Forensic Mental Health

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a senior pharmacy role. Mental health experience is desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will deputise for the Director of Pharmacy, both internally and at external meetings and forums.

The postholder will have operational responsibility for the running of the Pharmacy Department, across multiple sites.

The postholder will have line management responsibility for several senior staff members, including the Medication Safety Officer, for their Care Groups.

The Pharmacy Department at Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust is highly valued, having over 80 whole time equivalent staff members based on multiple sites.

We provide pharmacy services to a number of sub-specialties in mental health, including: adult acute, older adults, child & adolescent mental health, substance misuse, forensic psychiatry, and mental health and deafness.

Job description

  • To ensure expert pharmaceutical advice is provided to consultants, medical and health and social care staff within the trust and in primary care plus other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
  • To lead, develop, implement and evaluate trust wide policies and procedures relating to prescribing, drug administration and other aspects of medicines management.
  • To ensure that medicines management practices across the trust comply with legal, national and local guidelines.
  • To line manage senior clinical pharmacists across the Trust.
