Band 7 preceptorships available for less experienced candidates Suitable for candidates interested in job share This is an exciting opportunity to join the Major Trauma & Orthoplastics Psychology Service for adults based at the Manchester Royal Infirmary's Major Trauma Centre.
The MTC works alongside orthopaedic/plastic surgeons to provide holistic care to those who have suffered life threatening/life changing injuries. You will be embedded within a friendly/progressive inpatient staff team who value psychology and are keen to develop trauma informed ways of working. You will support the patient journey from inpatient to outpatient and have access to training, support, and supervision. Experience/interest in working with trauma, complex mental health presentations and mild brain injury will be beneficial. The service has links to national psychology networks for Major Trauma & Orthoplastics. There is opportunity to be involved in innovative research/service development.
Main duties of the job
Provision of high quality, evidence-based psychological care to patients and their families and carers Support the ongoing development and improvement of psychological pathways Provision of consultation, training, and supervision to MDT colleagues Working autonomously with an appropriate clinical caseload Research and service development Opportunities to develop additional competencies/undertake CPD and professional training in keeping with yearly appraisal/service needs.

Essential
- British Psychological Society Accredited Practitioner Doctoral Degree in Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychology.
- Registered with The Health & Care Professions Council as a 'Practitioner Psychologist'.
Desirable
- Training in trauma focused interventions e.g. CBT, EMDR
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with client groups in a physical health setting, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the whole life course. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the possible threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling/health psychologist (less experienced candidates may be appointed at Band 7 and work towards 8A competencies)
- Supervised experience (from a senior practitioner psychologist) in the application of cognitive-behavioural approaches to clinical settings (e.g. trauma-focused or general medical conditions).
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment.
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Experience of working within surgical and/or medical environments, delivering evidenced based psychological interventions.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
Knowledge

- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the relevant field of applied psychology.
