Job summary
We have a vacancy for an Occupational Therapist Assistant at Anson Road. The vacancy is a permanent post with working hours Monday to Friday.
Anson Road is a 24 hour, 17 bedded unit for men with mental health problems. The service aims to provide recovery focused support to enable service users to develop, enhance and sustain life skills and coping strategies which will enable the individual to achieve greater independence and quality of life.
The service users' length of stay will depend on progress through the structured rehabilitation programme, however it does average 18 months.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and reliable individual to work within the Anson Road team. You will work under supervision and direction of the Occupational Therapist. You will work collaboratively to ensure that service users activities/interventions are provided alongside a clinical care plan. This will involve supporting with input into functional assessments and both individual and group recovery focused interventions. You will be supported to deliver sessions such as Life Skills, Coping skills, community integration and bespoke or unit activity and community-based networking.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Occupational Therapists and wider Multidisciplinary Team to deliver a high quality service to patients using a variety of activities and interventions.
The post holder will contribute to the unit and OT service through the planning, implementation and delivery of a programme of group and/or individual activities to facilitate an individual's rehabilitation and recovery goals and in accordance with patient's needs. This is with the oversight and guidance of qualified Occupational Therapist.

- To be responsible for carrying out specific occupational therapy assessments and interventions related to self-care, productivity and leisure as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist, with either individuals or groups of service users.
- To assist the Occupational Therapist in planning and co-ordinating a weekly programme of therapeutic activities in liaison with service users and the multi-disciplinary team, which aim to meet the needs of service users and provide meaningful, age and gender appropriate occupation.
- To conduct and participate in a wide range of treatment sessions, tailored to the needs and goals of the patients, following assessment by the Occupational Therapist such as:
- Living skills e.g. meal planning, cooking, budgeting, health education.
- Social skills and community inclusion e.g. discussion groups, communication groups, orientation to the community.
- Creative therapies e.g. art, craft, music.
- Cognitive skills e.g. concentration groups, problem solving, relaxation.
- Recreation/leisure activities, promoting the use of community facilities and unit based facilities, hobbies/interests, gardening,
- Health and fitness activities e.g. fitness activities, indoor and outdoor within the unit and in the community. Exercise group sessions
To report and record relevant information regarding presentation and functional ability of service users verbally, on paper and on electronic records.
