Job summary

The Talking With Voices II Trial is an Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) 34-month multisite study which has been awarded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The postholder will be working in a novel area of intervention delivery with a team of leading experts in psychosis, including individuals with lived experience. The aim of Talking With Voices is to investigate a new form of dialogical therapy with the aim of promoting recovery and reducing voice-related distress, wherein a therapist speaks directly to the client's voice(s) while the client repeats its response verbatim. Data from this study will inform service development. The postholder will receive specialist manualised therapy training and frequent supervision to deliver the intervention within a transdiagnostic population of adults with persistent, distressing voices.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our research team at the Psychosis Research Unit (PRU), a joint project between Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester. PRU was established by Prof. Tony Morrison, a leading expert in conducting randomised controlled trials to evaluate psychological approaches to reduce distress associated with psychosis.

At PRU a normalising approach to understanding psychosis is promoted. We believe experiences and beliefs commonly regarded as symptoms of psychosis are often highly understandable reactions to adverse life events.
