Job summary

Ever thought of working in the prison sector? It is an exciting, interesting and rapidly developing sector for pharmacy. You can be part of the prison pharmacy team at Greater Manchester Mental Health and support delivery of pharmacy services and medicines administration at HMP Wymott & HMP Garth.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to become part of our extensive multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will support the provision of a safe and efficient pharmacy service to the prison's complex population. You will support close working with the mental health, and primary care teams. You must be excellent at communicating, and have the ability to problem solve in challenging situations.

Working hours will be a total of 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. Free parking available, and includes a variety of NHS benefits.

Main duties of the job

As a member of Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust NHS Medicines Management Team the post holder will be responsible for the 'in-house' pharmacy service at HMP Wymott and delivering a pharmacy service at HMP Garth in line with recommendations outlined in "A pharmacy service for prisoners". This will involve the organisation, planning and co-ordination of all pharmacy services on-site including the detoxification programme.

The post holder through a partnership approach will also help patients to get the best from their medicines by identifying unmet pharmaceutical need, and assist in improving access and service efficiency whilst aiming to reduce wasted medicines.

In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for encouraging the development of better medicines management understanding throughout the Prison Health Team and promote good practice in line with therapeutic developments in all prescribing decisions. This will involve assisting the Prison Health Care team in achieving NSF targets, NICE implementation and the introduction of medicines management initiatives.

The post holder will work with Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust and prisons to ensure prison pharmacy services are successfully integrated into existing Greater Manchester Mental Trust Health medicines management services.
