Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to work within the Health and Justice division of our Specialist Services Care Group. GMMH delivers systematic and high quality specialist forensic services for the assessment and treatment of men and women with mental disorder.

The Rivendell Service is a long-standing and well-established residential treatment unit which exists as part of the National Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) strategy, run in partnership with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) and HM Prison and Probation Service. GMMH therapeutic practitioners and HMPPS prison personnel work collaboratively and innovatively to create a therapeutic environment and to deliver bespoke interventions for up to 16 people in a dedicated wing in HMP New Hall, a prison for women. All residents present with complex risk and personality problems and work with the interventions team for up to two years to address the needs that have linked their personality problems to their offending.

Currently, Health and Justice Services support numerous partnerships within Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) across the North of England, including Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway services in the Women's Estate. We are seeking a highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our OPD treatment unit Rivendell at HMP New Hall.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with Rivendell team (Psychology and HMPPS colleagues), leading the service in the provision and delivery of a range of purposeful activity interventions to service users within the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway.

The post holder will be responsible for liaison and collaboration with Occupational Therapy colleagues working across the National Personality Disorder Offender Pathway in facilitating and promoting the wider understanding of and utilisation of Occupational Therapy. The post holder will work in partnership with the other Occupational Therapists in the Adult Forensic Service, Health and Justice Services and other Senior Occupational Therapists in the Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To provide clinical leadership for Occupational Therapy/Purposeful Activity within the Rivendell Service.
  2. Be responsible for the planning, development, and evaluation of the occupational therapy provision in line with service developments.
  3. Design purposeful activity within Rivendell and provide supervision to HMPPS staff around undertaking purposeful activity.
  4. To provide supervision to relevant posts within the Health and Justice division.
  5. To develop and maintain relationships with community providers including education and employment sectors.

To assist the Clinical Lead with the planning and development of the wider purposeful activity across the GMMH OPD footprint.
