Senior Mental Health Practitioner - Helpline

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the GMMH Urgent and Emergency Care Group. The GMMH All Age Crisis Helpline is an evolving service, to come into line with the NHS Forward Plan for Mental Health. You will be instrumental in developing our service.

We work in collaboration with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS). The Band 6 practitioner will rotate between the GMMH All Age Crisis Helpline and the Emergency Operations Centre in Manchester (EOC). The helpline practitioners have Trusted Assessors Status, this allows staff to refer service users direct to HBTT (Home Based Treatment Team) thus avoiding attendance to A&E Departments. Our aim is to reduce A&E presentations, by completing thorough risk assessments and sign posting service users to a more appropriate service that will meet their care needs, this means less waiting times for mental health assessments and a quicker response to their mental health crisis.

The service operates 24 hour 7 days a week, 365 days per year and practitioners will need to work within a 24-hour shift pattern. The service is based in the GMMH Patient Flow Service in Old Trust HQ on the Prestwich Hospital site in Prestwich.

The post holder will be qualified and be a member of their professional governing body, this will be a registered Mental Health Nurse, registered Mental Health Social Worker or Registered Occupational Therapist.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Mental Health Practitioner is to receive all calls and be able to provide immediate support, expert advice, signpost service users to the most appropriate service, assessment, and brief interventions where appropriate via mainly the phone. The Practitioner will have access to service user's electronic clinical record and will ensure liaison with the service users' existing services the following day via clearly defined routes.

The Mental Health Practitioner will be part of a shift team who work together for discussion and support.
