Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Ward Manager for Elm Ward Female Acute Ward. The ward is situated within Park House, a dynamic unit for mental health care. Elm Ward is part of the North View new build project, a fantastic new mental health unit on the North Manchester General Hospital site and the Elm team are actively involved in planning for this exciting purpose built unit.

The role will involve managing a busy 20 bedded ward, for female service users experiencing acute mental illness, crisis presentations, complex and challenging mental health problems.

We are looking for a professional confident individual to join us, who can lead, inspire and oversee the delivery of safe and effective care. The post holder will need to be enthusiastic and motivated to work in a busy environment with a high admission and discharge rate.

The post holder will need to be resilient, experienced in managing risk associated with a variety of mental health problems and demonstrate a passion for service improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide effective leadership and operational management to the ward ensuring the provision of high quality nursing care to all service users on the ward / department over a 24 hour period.

To promote and maintain excellence in nursing practice. To be responsible for leading the work of the care team and the co-ordination of effective utilization and resources within the defined area.

The post holder will be accountable to service users / patients, and operate within the Trust's framework of policies and guidelines.

To support the Operational Manager/Matron with the management of the clinical area.

This role includes participation in the local on call manager rota covering out of hours periods overnight, at weekends and bank holidays.
