Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 RMN Staff Nurse to become part of the team on John Denmark Unit, which is an 18 bedded, deaf specialist, mixed gender acute unit.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has an interest in acute nursing and rehab. You will need strong leadership skills, be able to make decisions and have sound communication skills. Our service users are diverse, and you will need a good level of knowledge of the differing mental health needs of adults needing inpatient care. British Sign Language skills are desirable, however, training will be provided up to Level 2 BSL.
You will be expected to work a 24-hour rotation of day and night shifts. Experience of working within a deaf mental health residential setting would be desirable and this post is also open to deaf staff with the appropriate qualifications required for the post. We would also like to speak to newly qualified staff.
This would be an excellent opportunity for someone looking to undertake preceptorship. Main duties of the job
In line with the philosophy of the ward/unit the post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the identified clients, acting as Primary Nurse for service users with complex and challenging needs within the service.
- The postholder will deliver interventions on an individual basis, providing effective evidence based care to service users. Communication and liaison with a number of disciplines is essential to promote effective delivery of a comprehensive care package to meet service users' needs.
- The postholder will provide support and direction to junior team members and assist in the smooth coordination and running of the ward.
- With the service user, assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care plans within the clinical area's philosophy/approach, as Primary Nurse for an identified caseload to the standards expected within the ward.
- As a part of the multi-disciplinary clinical team, participate in clinical and CPA reviews, completing all relevant documentation to the agreed standard.
- To ensure all clinical activity is recorded fully and in a timely manner, ensuring information being shared with relevant stakeholders.
- To engage effectively with service users, can empathise and has insight into patient's perceptions and is able to negotiate unambiguous boundaries in relationships.
- To complete all required documentation associated with the role of Primary Nurse, ensuring review timeframes are met.
