An excellent opportunity has arisen for someone to take up the new trust wide position of Consultant Nurse for Reducing Restrictive Practice. This is an ideal post for some who is looking for a varied and challenging role that requires a unique combination of knowledge and skills to deliver on what the role sets out to achieve. You will join the Nursing and Quality Team and work closely with the Associate Chief Nurse to deliver on a key trust priority: reducing restrictive practices such as restraint, seclusion, rapid tranquilisation, enhanced observations and blanket restrictions.
The successful candidate will report to the Associate Chief Nurse and will be responsible for leading and developing a least restrictive, person-centred culture, evidenced based practice and for setting, maintaining and developing professional standards for nurses.
The postholder will support services with services users who have highly complex needs and require specialist input, working as an autonomous practitioner providing advanced expert clinical nursing practice. They will manage the Positive and Safe team and develop the Trusts RRP educational and research programmes to support clinical practice across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will have demonstrable experience at a senior clinician level as they will be working as an autonomous practitioner providing advanced expert clinical nursing practice in relation to reducing Restrictive Practice.
They will be working with multi-professional teams, providing expert advice regarding service users with highly complex needs, providing highly developed and expert nursing skills within their area of clinical expertise.
They will advise on clinical practice development, and the implementation of development initiatives across trust services relating to restrictive practices.

- Lead the implementation of the Reducing Restrictive Practices strategy which includes leadership and management of the Positive and Safe Team.
- Develop the Trust Reducing Restrictive Practice educational programme ensuring that the national standards are adhered to.
- Provide expert clinical practice and leadership for Reducing Restrictive Practices, which will involve the assessment and care planning for service users that have been subjected to Restraint, Rapid Tranquilization, Seclusion, Enhanced Observations and Blanket restrictions, working closely with people, their families and carers.
- Support change to ensure services meet all requirements of the Use of Force Act (2018).
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Use of Force Act (2018), including training, reporting, policy requirements.
- Ensure a minimum of 50% of the role is delivering clinical practice providing expert advice regarding service users with highly complex needs, working as an autonomous practitioner providing advanced expert clinical nursing practice.
- Identify and advise on the development of research and audit projects to improve the outcomes for patient care, ensuring that these are linked into programmes of research and where necessary receive ethical approval.
