Job summary
We are looking to recruit a committed and dynamic HCPC psychologist or senior psychological therapist to work within the multi-disciplinary mental health team within HMP Manchester. We are seeking a psychologist or therapist to offer assessment, formulation and therapy to a range of services users across the prison. Manchester mental health services operate a step-care model of treatment and intervention and the post-holder would specifically be working at the Step 3. Therefore a strong therapeutic skill set is required.
Additional training, such as EMDR can be offered as part of the role.
The post holder would be expected to work closely with the Principal clinical psychologist to provide high-quality psychological advice and support to the mental health team and wider HMPPS staff and stakeholders. As such, the post-holder would be expected to build strong relationships with HMPPS partners to provide formulation driven understanding of offender mental health presentation to inform psychologically driven care and support.
Working within a prison environment can be a challenging place to work, we are seeking someone not only with strong clinical skills but also the ability to manage and respond to the dynamic needs of the team, the client group and the environment, to ensure that provision is accessible and appropriate.
Main duties of the job
- To develop psychological formulations based on detailed assessments, using a range of sources.
- To provide medium to long-term therapy in line with Step 3 provision.
- To work with other professionals to consider support for intervention
- To provide supervision and oversite of the intervention offered at the Step 2 provision.
- To work with the Prinicpal clinical psychologist to offer consultation and psychological advice for those cared for at Step 4.
- To provide training to the mental health team.
- To provide supervision for the assistant psychologist

To contribute to the multi-professional understanding of service-user presentation and support the development of a psychologically informed environment for the services-users to reside within.
To work closely with other psychological therapists and provide supervision to the psychological well-being practitioners.
