Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Manager at the Golborne unit and Sovereign unit, within the later life and adult inpatient provision in Wigan. There are two posts available one on Golborne ward and one on Sovereign Ward.
Golborne ward is a mixed organic and functional ward caring for 21 patients predominantly over the age of 67 years with complex care needs and physical health frailty.
Sovereign Ward is a male adult acute ward caring for 20 males over the age of 18 years old with complex and enduring mental health needs.
Both wards can welcome a potential candidate to an enthusiastic and innovative team who will support your development within the service. We are committed to the wellbeing and staff and ongoing training and support in a friendly and caring environment for both patients and staff.
We work alongside our community colleagues to provide excellent and efficient inpatient care, with the aim of supporting each individual in their recovery journey.
Main duties of the job
You will have the necessary skills to lead, support and manage staff, and be visible and accessible to service users and their families. Your skills should enable you to meet the requirements of this demanding post which include balancing operational management, professional leadership, supporting your team and the active development of the service.
You will be a role model and have a clear interest in later life or acute nursing and crisis management within mental health and patient centred Newcastle care model and recovery focused care. You will ensure staff commitment to good evidence based practice, ensure the delivery of a quality service and that key targets and standards are being met.
To assist the Ward Manager in providing leadership and operational management to the ward, ensuring the provision of quality nursing care to all service users
You will assess, plan and implement care, and provide specialist nursing advice regarding acute care and crisis management.
You will provide clinical and managerial leadership to junior staff, and provide supervision to junior staff and students
To support the Ward Manager in the implementation and sustainment of quality improvement projects on the ward
To act as a positive role model to the team, demonstrating the core values of Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust
To provide 24 hour senior nurse input to the unit and liaise with other agencies to support this duty
