Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry - Assertive Outreach (East)

Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor Psychiatrist within the Central Assertive Outreach team to provide psychiatric care and support to people who have historically avoided contact with mental health services. The post holder will be required to adopt a flexible and creative approach to engagement.

The service aims to

  • Treat all service users with respect and sensitivity taking into account their individual beliefs and aspirations
  • Promote independence and choice
  • Build good relationships with all service users, their families and carers
  • Strive to work with people towards achieving a quality of life acceptable to them
  • Support social inclusion and promoting normalisation at every step where possible
  • Stabilize mental health and social circumstances and build on life skills, with the goal of moving through the Care Pathway to less intensive services.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will cover a population of working age adults comprising of GP populations of 25+ year olds predominantly in the Central sector of the city. The main duties and responsibilities of the post will include

  • Recognised medical degree
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Eligible for approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act.
  • Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme or as a fixed term specialty trainee within psychiatry; or have equivalent experience and competences.
  • Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development.
  • At least two years experience of working in psychiatry, including working with people suffering from severe mental illness,
  • Competent general medical and psychiatric skills in assessment, formulation and diagnosis.
  • Medication management
  • Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level
  • Commitment to clinical audit within multi- disciplinary team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing service needs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work creatively within multi- disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrable interest in the provision of gender sensitive mental health service
  • Able to travel across the community base area.
