Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and passionate individual to join us as our Deaf Advisor. This key role supports our accreditation as a National Deaf Service, providing advice and guidance to ensure our Deaf Services are accessible, aware, and friendly to the deaf community. You will represent the service at trust level in line with Equality and Diversity, taking the lead on cultural and linguistic adaptations to meet the needs of our clients. Working closely with the management team, you'll help oversee the effectiveness of the services we offer, while also supporting wider initiatives within the Trust to improve deaf awareness and accessibility. Additionally, you'll represent the service at a national level, contributing to the development of specialist deaf mental health services more broadly.

Main duties of the job

Not limited to*:

To represent the service in different forums and work with service development leads in BSMHFT and NHS England to steer and improve patient experience and tackle digital poverty and healthinequalities.

To work autonomously when developing interventions to implement change in line with our quality standards and NHSE directives.

Working closely with interpreters to translate and record required accessible information for service users.

To lead in the promotion of Deaf Services with communication and technological innovations that are introduced within Jasmine Suite and nationally within Deaf Services.

To represent the service in different forums and work with service development leads in BSMHFT to steer and improve patient experience and tackle digital poverty and health inequalities.

To develop, promote and ensure BSL communication within the Jasmine ward and support colleagues in networking with external deaf services.

To support the MDT in developing accessible communication opportunities to enable recovery of people who have mental health and deafness needs.

To act as a central point of contact, offering consultation to staff about access to advocacy,

Implementing information related to legal rights, and cultural and linguistic considerations relevant to how support is adapted to inpatients during admission

  • Achieved or evidence of working towards NVQ Level 3 / Diploma Qualification
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
  • Ability to read and write fluently the English Language
  • Knowledge of deaf related agencies related to government legislation and relative best practice

Desirable

  • Deaf studies degree or Equivalent.
  • Health and Social care qualifications in any discipline or significant experience of working in Health and social care setting
