The closing date is 15 March 2026

Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organised individual to join the Medical Directorate as the Medical Appraisal, Revalidation and Job Planning Lead Officer. This pivotal role provides specialist operational support to the medical workforce, ensuring appraisal, revalidation, and job planning requirements are met in line with national standards and statutory frameworks.

The post holder will oversee the Trust's systems for appraisal, revalidation, and job planning, ensuring high-quality data, effective system use, and timely reporting to senior leadership. The role requires the ability to interpret complex information, manage sensitive data, and provide clear advice to clinicians, appraisers, and operational colleagues.

A key element of the role includes delivering training, supporting consistency across processes, and contributing to the ongoing development of governance arrangements within the Directorate. The post also includes line management of the Business Support Officer (Medical Appraisal and Revalidation).

The suitable candidate will have demonstrable experience in medical appraisal, revalidation, and job planning, alongside strong analytical skills, excellent organisational ability, and a commitment to delivering a high-quality service. They will play a central role in supporting statutory compliance, maintaining governance standards, and ensuring a positive and consistent experience for medical staff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will coordinate and oversee the Trust's medical appraisal, revalidation, and job planning processes, ensuring all activity meets statutory, regulatory, and organisational requirements. They will maintain the associated electronic systems to ensure data is accurate, compliant, secure, and reported in a timely manner.

They will act as the principal point of contact for clinicians, appraisers, and colleagues, providing specialist advice on appraisal, revalidation, and job planning. The role includes interpreting complex information, monitoring compliance, identifying issues, and preparing high-quality reports for the Responsible Officer and senior medical leadership.

The post holder will manage the quality assurance of appraisal submissions, oversee the collation and verification of revalidation evidence, and support relevant meetings. They will assist with the annual job planning cycle, schedule meetings, maintain accurate job plan records, and prepare documentation for consistency panels. They will also support the Medical Directorate Senior Business Manager by ensuring that operational processes remain robust, responsive, and aligned with Trust priorities, and contribute to the development and review of policies, procedures, and systems that underpin medical workforce governance.
