Band 4 Dietetic Assistant - Eating Disorders Team

Job summary

Do you have a keen interest in nutrition and its key role in in patient care and recovery? Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Band 4 Dietetic Assistant to join our expanding, supportive team, providing dietetic care to service users within Mental Health Facilities.

The post holder will support in meeting our service priority of ensuring the nutrition and hydration needs of our inpatients are adequately met, and to work in partnership with a range of services to promote improved physical health for people with Mental Health conditions at different stages of their recovery.

The Specialist Eating Disorders Service (SEDS) are seeking to recruit a dietetic assistant who is committed to working with young people and young adults with Eating Disorders and ARFID. The post holder will be part of the SEDS Dietetic Service, assisting in the provision of a comprehensive and holistic service for patients referred into the team.

SEDS are an established and ambitious team who provide specialist assessment, intervention and evidence based treatment for patients 0-25 with eating disorders in the community, alongside supporting their families/carers. The team also provides intensive treatment in the community to help keep patients in their own homes, reduce inpatient admissions and support early discharge. SEDS are now part of Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB) which is now the Children's and Young People's division of BSMHFT.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to have a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, be compassionate, respectful and value individual patient needs. They will have the ability to recognise and manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner (this may be clinic based or in the home), be resilient and emotionally intelligent and engage positively with children, young adults and families. An excellent working knowledge of child protection and adult safeguarding issues and processes for the age range 0-25 is essential.

The post holder must be prepared to work flexibly and be able to travel independently across the city of Birmingham, as we are a citywide service. A driving license and access to a car daily for work purposes is desirable as the service is citywide.
