Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

Band 5 Dietitian - The Barberry

The closing date is 09 November 2025

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Dietitian to join our Adult Mental Health team across Birmingham and Solihull.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian either wanting to expand and develop their skills, or learn new skills in a mental health setting. We are looking for ability to adapt and transferable dietetic skills to meet our service priority of ensuring the nutrition and hydration needs of our inpatients are adequately met, and to work in partnership with a range of services to promote improved physical health for people with Mental Health conditions at different stages of their recovery.

Our small team is supportive, innovative and provides strong links with the wider MDT and local services. We are committed to professional and personal development, and are committed to displaying the Trust values in the work that we do.

Main duties of the job

The post covers inpatient acute mental health wards, providing the post holder with the opportunity to gain skills in different areas of dietetic care and have a positive impact with service users at different stages of their recovery.

The post holder will work with people with a variety of clinical conditions including nutrition support, diabetes, bowel disorders, disordered eating, and weight management.

Alongside the clinical aspect of the post, the post holder will have the opportunity to participate in audit, service improvement projects, CPD opportunities and student training.

Although preferably the candidate would have some experience of working in a mental health setting, we understand that a lot of new graduates / dietitians will not of had this opportunity, and therefore the post holder will receive regular supervision from the Lead Dietitian, and will be encouraged to attend clinical supervision with other clinicians.

The department base is The Barberry Centre (Edgbaston, Birmingham) with the requirement to travel to Trust sites across the city. An element of remote working is also negotiable. This post is Mon-Fri, no weekend work or bank holiday cover required.

For an informal conversation or to arrange a visit, please contact Lizzie Whitehead (Team Lead): 07985883920
