Job summary

Providing advice, guidance and consultation to professionals across the West Midlands who are working with young people (up to the age of 18 years) who present with complex risk profiles (including risk to others) in the context of mental health/neurodiversity or where there is suspicion of either but no current diagnosis.

Managing a caseload (non-care coordination) and providing ongoing advice and guidance around risk management and reduction.

Partaking in the duty rota and accepting new enquiries or referrals to the service. This includes providing initial advice around risk and signposting where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a key professional within the existing Youth First MDT.

The post holder will work collaboratively with professionals across the West Midlands and provide specific advice and recommendations around risk in the context of forensic risk. The post holder will do so at the point of duty when receiving a new enquiry or referral to the service, ensuring that any immediate advice is provided to address any imminent risk concerns and within the consultation process should the young person require allocation to the service.

The post holder will require the skillset to be able to manage potential differing opinions, difficult relationships and to offer appropriate challenge where necessary to ensure that the young person's care patway is meeting their unique needs.

The post holder will work closely with the wider MDT to formulate risk and plan Youth First involvement, seeking support from the MDT as necessary. The post holder will work closely with the safeguarding team within the Trust to ensure they are seeking the appropriate support and that they are supported where concerns around safeguarding practice are present.

The post holder will participate in the strategies within Youth First that are inbuilt to ensure/bolster/protect resilience and support, such as Reflective Practice & Safeguarding Supervision.

To lead on new service developement initiatives, audits, pathways under the direction of the manager.

To provide management cover as required.
