Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to take up the position of a band 5 Occupational Therapist (OT) on Chamomile suite which is a perinatal inpatient service based at the Barberry in Edgbaston. This is a 12-month fixed term post to cover maternity leave and would suit someone hoping to gain experience in the field of perinatal mental health.

You will be based on the Chamomile suite, working as a key member of that team where you will develop and deliver occupational therapy (OT) provision to a designated caseload. You will focus on occupational performance, complex mental health presentations, risk management and evaluating outcomes aligned to personalised care plans. You will implement and facilitate individual and group programmes of clinical intervention in collaboration with other OT's and other professionals for effective recovery and discharge.

The unit is highly specialised in treating acute mental illness during the perinatal period and women using the service are co-admitted with their infants you would be joining and working closely with a band 5 Occupational Therapist, band 8 lead OT Occupational Therapist, Ward Manager, Matron, and the ward multidisciplinary team including nursery nurses, therapy staff and peer support workers.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to communicate well and use their professional skills and knowledge to work effectively across the service, as well as displaying ability to work on their own initiative and be a team player.

They will be joining a hard-working multi-disciplinary team dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for service users and carers. They will be involved in a variety of professional roles to include supporting the day-to-day decision making on the ward, designated supervision responsibilities, leadership of various individual projects, quality initiatives and service developments that support the trust strategy. This will equip them to embrace our philosophy of care; that the service user is at the heart of everything that we do. They will be expected to be flexible in their approach and welcome the opportunity to build on existing experience and skills in this highly specialised area of clinical practice.

This position would be ideal for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with a vision to develop their career and clinical expertise within perinatal mental health services. The post would require the successful applicant to have experience within a mental health setting and or perinatal mental health and have an awareness of risk management and safeguarding. The candidate will be expected to utilise specialist functional assessments and interventions utilising the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) which is primarily used within the trust.
