Job summary

We are looking for a suitably experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, (eligibility for entry onto the HCPC Register of Practitioner Psychologists). This post can either be offered at a Band 8a or a Band 7-8a Preceptorship arrangement depending on experience. Applications from final year trainees in a Preceptorship arrangement are welcome.

We are pleased to create an opportunity for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, to work across our Community DBT (CASCADE) Service and East Hub CMHT Psychological Service. We are looking for a psychologist who is highly motivated to work with presentations encompassing risk, personality difficulties, complex trauma, mental health and social inequalities. This is an ideal post to apply your full range of psychological skills and knowledge including consultation, training, supervision, service development, leadership, and research in addition to direct clinical work.

Main duties of the job

CASCADE is anall-ages DBT-plus service (14+) based at Thomas Telford House in Erdington, delivering comprehensive, adapted and DBT-informed therapies, to treat core difficulties associated with severe emotional dysregulation, complex PTSD and other co-occurring presentations. For this post it is desirable for a candidate to be DBT trained however we can as part of a development plan offer DBT training.

East Hub CMHT Psychological Service is based at Small Heath Health Centre and provides psychological input to service users under Riverside CMHT and Small Heath CMHT.The site is easily accessible by public transport and there is also a large trust car park.

Training/qualifications

Essential

  • Satisfactory completion of a Health and Care Professions Council/British Psychological Society accredited doctorate professional training course in either clinical or counselling psychology. Also qualify for registration for Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training or additional qualifications in an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or other psychological therapy: including DBT, MBT, brief psychodynamic interventions, CAT, EMDR.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment and individual and group based treatment of clients with complex difficulties across adult secondary or tertiary care settings. (for 8a post)
  • Experience working in Adult Secondary or Tertiary Mental Health services (for Preceptorship)

Desirable

  • Experience of working with service users with personality difficulties/complex trauma/dissociation/psychosis
