  • A positive culture of speaking up is instilled throughout the organisation with speaking up becoming business as usual
  • All colleagues are aware of the processes for speaking up and how to raise a concern
  • All colleagues are supported appropriately when they speak up or support others who are speaking up
  • Action is taken to ensure that managers follow up concerns
  • That the Trust learns from concerns raised and improvements are made as a result
  • That the Trust is effectively aligned with the National Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) processes and best practice guidance

Main duties of the job

Having a healthy speaking up culture is one of our key priorities and is essential to maintaining high levels of patient safety and improved quality. You will join an existing team of two guardians and team administrator providing visible leadership across Team BSMHFT, enabling colleagues to feel safe to speak up, supporting the organisation in following up concerns, and ensuring there is learning and improvement.

Having re-launched our Freedom to Speak up offer, the successful applicant will be joining the team at an exciting point of service expansion. Working with the Board, senior leadership team, service managers and other stakeholders you will support the team in the implementation and roll out of the Champion Speaking up network. A commitment to making Team BSMHFT a more open and transparent place to work is essential in addition to a proven track record of success in leading change.

You will work across the Trust with all staff groups, identifying and removing barriers to speaking up, ensuring that all colleagues have the capability, knowledge, and skills they need to speak up themselves, and are able to support others in speaking up. Reporting to the Lead Guardian you will ensure action is taken to ensure that groups facing barriers to speaking up have the support they need.
