Job summary

Working predominantly at the Barberry Centre, at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT), the post-holder will support the regional Mental Health Mission to Midlands Translational Research Centre of Excellence to increase recruitment to mood disorders studies, predominantly for people experiencing depression.

For any assigned project, they will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies. This will involve the recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data, including the collection and preparation of samples. You will work collaboratively with the research delivery team and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your own caseload of clinical trial patients. The role involves using an in-depth knowledge of trial protocols and their application in practice, alongside a working knowledge and compliance with the local, national and international research regulations and nursing framework. This post would suit someone with a clinical background in nursing and previous hands on clinical trial/research experience is a must. Experience of working in a mental health setting or with patients experience depression would be desirable.

Main duties of the job

o Coordinate the care of your own case load of clinical trial patientso Ensure the safe administration of treatments given within the context of a clinical trialo Conduct assessments with study participants based upon competency and study specific trainingo Take clinical samples for studies; coordinate tissue sample collection and dispatch to relevant departments or research centreso To ensure that trial specific investigations are undertaken as required by the research protocolo To provide on-going information, education and support to patients (and their carers) regarding clinical trialso To maintain accurate documentation of patient events in nursing, medical and trial noteso To act appropriately to report and record serious adverse events, this includes communication with the Principal Investigator and relevant local personnel and regulatory authoritieso To provide on-going follow up care whilst patient is in the clinical trialo Act at all times in a way that maintains patients' and carers' dignityo Refer to other specialists as required in order to provide optimal patient careo Unless otherwise agreed, act as a primary contact point for the clinical trial patiento Identify patients suitable for entry into clinical trials by attending ward rounds, clinics (screening notes/consultant referral) and Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
