8c Consultant Clinical / Forensic Psychologist -Enhanced RECONNECT Service2 year fixed term contract / secondmentThe Enhanced RECONNECT (ER) service supports individuals with convictions with complex needs to engage with and get the right treatment from mental health, substance misuse and other services, for up to a year after release from prison. Service users will be supported by expert care navigators working with health and probation services. ER will offer an enhanced pathway of care and is NHS England's response to the management of high complexity health needs and deemed to be at high risk of harm to the public. The ER service will work in collaboration with partners, including those from across government, to ensure that such individuals have their needs addressed. This may include, but is not limited to, those convicted of violent and sexual offences, terrorist act offences (Terrorism Act, 2000) and individuals at risk of committing terrorist acts. This risk must be related to a health need.ER takes a partnership approach to managing the most complex and high-risk individuals who leave prison and will specifically work with individuals that have a high complexity of health need, may be a risk to the public and those who need longer term support to engage and remain engaged with community health and support services. The service will cover Birmingham and Solihull as part of the Secure Care and offender Health division (BSMHFT) but some travel will be required.

Main duties of the job

Clinical lead for a psychologically led, trauma informed, 2 year pilot ER service.Ensure that the service delivers interventions, structured support, advocacy and signposting to those leaving prison to engage with community- based health and support services, reduce social exclusion and thereby reduce behaviours that can be linked to poor mental/physical health and could lead to offending behaviour.Ensure service users receive more complex case management through coordinated intervention, support and risk management from multiple agencies (e.g. health, criminal justice, local authorities, substance misuse, employment) as indicated via health needs assessment.Support individuals to engage in community services, reduce barriers and clinical inequalities.The ER service requires a consultant clinical or forensic practitioner psychologist with extensive mental health experience across a diverse range of service user groups, managing high levels of risk and complexity, who is a a compassionate, inclusive, enthusiastic and innovative leader.Significant leadership experience in developing new services and leading and managing psychological professionals is essential.Partnership working with a range of health, social care and criminal justice agencies displaying good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills is expected.

The post holder will have to participate in the Psychology out of hours on-call provision as part of Trust business continuity plans.
