Job summary
George ward is an acute 16 bedded unit, for individuals with mental health issues. Some cases can be complex with both mental and physical health problems. We hope to promote well being for the patients and the staff on the ward. We believe in delivering the best care in the right way in the right place at the right time, with joined up care across health and social care. George ward is dedicated to provide highest quality services in a safe environment where our patients, their families, carers and staff have positive experiences, working together to continually improve.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care, and will have a working knowledge of local/national policies and legislation which govern current service provision for people aged 16 and above who have an eating disorder. They will be responsible for identifying and contributing to others training needs, and in the promotion of issues of equality, diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation. The post holder will ensure effective communication pathways exist, and that they act within their sphere of responsibility, managing the clinical area in the absence of the person in charge.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the evidence based care required, including health promotion for a named service user/group. Responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including monitoring and reviewing, in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy. To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the unit manager or the designated deputy. Responsible for ensuring the postholder understands and meets their professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach and current child protection legislation. Responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and Children's Act are observed, adhered to and implemented. Responsible for the promotion of carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision.
Responsible for the safe custody and administration of medicines. To participate and contribute appropriately in research, service modernisation, clinical governance and the National Service Framework. To respect and value the different therapeutic approaches within the multi-disciplinary team but ensure that the agreed philosophy approach is adopted and followed.
Responsible for the provision of formal and informal training of pre/post registration students, staff members, carers and service users.
