Band 8a Matron - North Acute Wards

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Mental Health or Nurse to apply for the role of Matron working on the North Acute Wards and Day Services. There are five inpatient wards

The post holder will work directly with the Head of Nursing and AHPs for the division and in partnership with the Clinical Nurse Manager. You will be an inspirational and credible leader who is able to develop and lead through others. The role of the Matron is crucial to developing a compassionate and well led service where excellent standards of practice, and effective patient care is delivered through a skilled workforce. You will be able promote and support best practice, set professional standards and fairly hold colleagues to account to these.

You will be working directly with the Head of Nursing and AHP to develop robust mechanisms to ensure that care delivered within the site is safe, effective and of consistently high quality. Essential to the role is the ability to use data, audit, service evaluation and quality improvement methodology to develop a reflective, continuous improvement culture. Other key areas of focus for this role are developing the clinical supervision and reflective practice offers, promoting safeguarding awareness and practice, infection, prevention and control compliance, learning from incidents, complaints and patient/carer feedback and involvement with the reducing restrictive practice work within the service area.

Main duties of the job

You will need a sound knowledge of the national legislation with regard to infection prevention, the Mental Health Act and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, and extensive knowledge in maintaining and improving clinical standards. Maintaining an oversight of safe staffing with regard to skill mix and effectiveness, environmental and estates issues impacting on patient safety and other aspects of compliance play an important part of the Matron role. There is also an expectation to work flexibly across the shifts at times to support the service and there is an expectation to be part of the Trust On Call Rota

The post holder will embrace multi-disciplinary working and work as a key member of the MDT, you will also be required to represent the service and the Head of Nursing and AHPs at key forums and meetings.

Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills will be required for this post and you will need to be able to work effectively both on your own initiative and as part of the team.
