Job summary
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive mental healthcare service for residents of Birmingham and Solihull and to communities in the West Midlands and beyond. We operate out of more than 50 sites and serve a culturally and socially diverse population of 1.2 million spread over 172 square miles, have an annual budget of £240 million and a dedicated workforce of over 4,000 staff - making this one of the largest and most complex Mental Health Foundation Trusts in the country.
We are seeking to appoint four Consultants in General Adult Psychiatry to join our newly established Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams which have been set up in response to the NHS Long Term Plan for bridging the interface between Primary Care and Community Mental Health Teams.
The Consultant will work across one provider site and PCN location within either North, South, East or Solihull Hubs with a flexible working pattern consisting of home working and on site working.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will not hold a caseload but will have consultatory oversight of patients being stepped from the Core CMHT function and being referred into the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team function. A key responsibility will be provision of highly visible clinical leadership, forging strong working relationships with PCNs, CMHT Leads and Multi Agency Teams. As well as triaging referrals, assessing patients, and providing supervision you will be seeking and representing the views of others to lead a culture of collaborative working and to further develop the service.
Ideally you will already have experience in delivering care within community settings alongside the substantial experience you have already gained in working with people with complex mental health problems and those that are difficult to engage.
Your leadership will enhance the linkage between primary and secondary care services to support patients to manage their healthcare needs and live well in their communities.
About us
Welcome to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Our 4000 clinical and support staff help us to improve mental health wellbeing and meet the needs of the 70,000 people we serve each year. We provide a range of mental healthcare services across Birmingham and Solihull, as well as specialised services nationally. We also offer medical, nursing and psychology training and are proud of our international reputation for both research and innovation.
Our population is culturally diverse, characterised in places by high levels of deprivation which create an increasing demand for our services and a necessity for us to make sure everyone can access the help they need. We are a team of compassionate, inclusive and committed people working together to provide excellent care to support our community.
You will be supported by a local team to include a Hub Manager, Clinical Service Manager, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and other non-medical prescribing. Community Pharmacists and Specialty Doctors will be recruited into each Neighbourhood Mental Health Team. Support is also provided by the Locality Home Treatment Team and Assertive Outreach Team.
Our Trust values of compassion, inclusion and commitment are integral to our strategy and are promoted in everything we do. We encourage the co-production of our plans and continually seek to question, improve, learn and innovate through our practices, our research and our developments.
