Job summary

Although this post is advertised as working at Hillis Lodge, you will be employed by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust and will commit to covering shortfalls at other sites across the mens secure service as and when the need arises. There will also be an annual opportunity to rotate your base between different wards when you or the service require it.

We are looking to recruit to a minumum of one vacant Band 5 RMN Staff Nurse post. The successful applicant/s will initially be based at Hillis Lodge in Northfield.

Hillis Lodge is a 15 bedded male low secure hospital, offering care and treatment to service users from across the West Midlands, who have severe and enduring mental health conditions.

We are looking for a passionate, dedicated and highly motivated Mental Health Nurse to work on the ward as part of a strong, experienced team. You will be providing high quality evidence based care to a diverse patient group who often have combined physical and mental health needs. You will act as a positive role model for staff and students and behave in a manner that reflects the philosophy of the unit and the values of the organisation as a whole.

Main duties of the job

What we would like from you:

  • RMN Qualified (or Student Nurse within 6 months of qualifying)
  • NMC Registration
  • A working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Patient centred, individualised care approach
  • Demonstration of skills including effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, and critical self-reflection.
  • Work alongside our multidisciplinary clinical team and support the work they do.
  • Having individual keyworker responsibilities / building up effective therapeutic working relationships
  • Physical health assessments, including learning about management of health conditions that may be outside your current area of confidence and experience.
  • Medication management
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to lead the planning and implementation of team learning opportunities, patient interventions and activities.
  • Demonstration of a personal motivation to do your role to the best of your ability, to engage fully and actively in all aspects of life at Hillis Lodge and to have high quality, patient focused care at the heart of everything you do.
