Job summary

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen to work as part of the COMPASS Programme (Dual Diagnosis) in the post of Band 5 COMPASS Wellbeing practitioner.

The post is a full time and permanent position working with our Mental Health Teams and based in one of BSMHFT hubs. It is open to internal and external applicants from candidates with substantial experience with Mental Health and/or Drug and alcohol backgrounds.

The COMPASS Programme is a trust-wide service working with clients who experience both severe mental health and substance use difficulties. The team is recognised nationally as a cameo of good practice in the Dual Diagnosis Good Practice Guide (2002).

The COMPASS Programme provides quality, evidence-based interventions for clients with co-morbid difficulties. There will be opportunities for the successful applicant to be involved in relevant and audit projects. This post would ideally suit applicants who are enthusiastic and self-motivated and have knowledge of the impact that substance use can have on mental health.

Main duties of the job

COMPASS is BSMHFT's Dual Diagnosis team, We are a small but friendly team, who support each other and work with the Trusts values. This will include working across inpatient and community teams. The Practitioner will support service users to achieve positive outcomes, recovery goals and community reintegration. Integral to the multi-disciplinary team a key role will be to offer advice and training to healthcare workers and to run substance use groups for service users.

The post holder will work with the multidisciplinary team and support clinical Compass specialists to deliver our evidence based programme of interventions. This will involve the receipt and assessment of referrals for individuals with a Dual Diagnosis. The team will contribute to ongoing assessment and care planning for service users and offer group works and brief interventions, team liaison, education.

The post holder will offer evidence based recovery focused interventions to individuals or groups who use substances problematically with a Mental Health diagnosis; this will included dependent alcohol drinkers and drug/ substance users with complex presentations and who are under of BSMHFT Mental Health Teams.

The post holder will deliver interventions provided by COMPASS that are based on evidence of clinical effectiveness to a consistently high standard and within NICE clinical guidelines, under the supervision of COMPASS and the Mental Health team specialists
