Job summary
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) Research and Development department are looking to recruit a Lead Research Nurse to oversee clinical trial management within the Trust and to support with the training and development of Research Nurses within the Trust and beyond. The post is funded as part of the NIHR Midlands Mental Health Mission which in Birmingham, will enable the establishment of the Midlands Translational Research Centre of Excellence, co-led by the University of Birmingham , BSMHFT and Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital.The mission will focus on providing the infrastructure required to increase recruitment to new studies to test and validate treatments in mood disorders, particularly depression. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in delivering clinical trials, will have the physical skills required to perform trial activities and the desire and attributes to train and mentor the next generation of research nurses.

Main duties of the job
The post holder has a key leadership and management role at a senior level and will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the running of a (predominantly) commercially funded clinical trials research portfolio. In partnership with the Principal Investigators (PIs), the post holder will be responsible for leading and co-ordinating their own portfolio of clinical trials and other approved research. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for recruiting and line managing a team of nurses/clinical support staff and will take a lead in the development and delivery of a mentoring, training, and education programme to support these nurses in recruiting to NIHR portfolio and commercially funded projects. The post holder will provide professional leadership to other nurses and allied health care professionals who are undertaking research in the Trust. They will be expected to contribute strategically and operationally to the growth of portfolio research in the Trust and they will use their role to enhance the team's ability and capacity to undertake high quality clinical research by developing knowledge, skills, and practice within the team.
