Job summary
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) is the NHS provider of Mental Health services in England's second city of Birmingham, and Solihull. We are a progressive Trust with a clear plan of how we will transform our services by delivering our Trust Clinical Strategy over the next five years. Nursing and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) will be at the forefront of this transformation which will be supported through the development of our Nursing Strategy and by our existing AHP strategy.
We provide a wide range of services across Birmingham and Solihull which include 49 inpatient units and community services such as;
- Medium and Low Secure
- Forensic Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services
- Acute inpatient units
- Community Mental Health Teams
- Home Treatment Teams
- Veterans Service
- Psychiatric Intensive Care Units
- Specialities such as Perinatal Mental Health, Eating Disorders and Dementia & Frailty services.

Main duties of the job
The Trust is looking for an outstanding Deputy Director of Nursing who will report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and will hold a critically important portfolio of Infection Prevention and Control, Safeguarding, Under and Postgraduate Education, Physical Health, Professional Standards and Safer Staffing as well as deputising across the full range of the Chief Nursing Portfolio, including representation at core Trust and system meetings.
Quality Improvement sits within the CNO portfolio and following excellent feedback from our partner organisation, we are excited to be moving on to a new stage in our QI journey this coming year. There will be many opportunities for the post holder to get involved with the QI movement across the organisation and receive training and development to hone your QI skills.
You will also be responsible for leading the development of our Trust Nursing Strategy, taking this through from engagement with our frontline staff to presentation for approval at the Trust Board.
The post holder will be a core member of the Trust Senior Leadership Team, working with a wide range of professional and operational colleagues who will look to you for professional and clinical advice and expertise. There will be a comprehensive support and development package for you, whether you are a first time Deputy Director or an experienced deputy looking for a step up.
