Senior Clinical Fellow in Neonates

Job summary

We invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow post at the Lancashire Women's and Newborns level 3 Neonatal Unit (Burnley General Hospital). We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Clinical Fellow. This post offers a fantastic opportunity for doctors training in paediatrics/neonatology to gain a broad based experience in neonatal critical care at a Level 3 neonatal unit.

This post is 1 WTE for 6 months (may be a requirement to extend to 12 but will be reviewed) in the first instanceto commence in April 2026.

The successful applicant will join our fantastic team of Consultants, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Fellows, Deanery Trainees and Allied Health Professionals.

Main duties of the job

Duties will be in the neonatal department on the Tier 2 rota.

There will be a mixture of long day/night shifts and shorter day shifts. Duties will be divided between Intensive/High Dependency Care, Special and Transitional Care and the care of infants on the post-natal wards.

Duties will be shared with resident trainees [ST3-8] and Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and supervision and education will be provided by Consultants.

The selected candidate will work as part of the Tier Two rota within NICU and will be responsible for clinical care of patients, the recording of notes (including Badger), communication with parents and colleagues and all other responsibilities of a resident doctor in the department.

Burnley General Teaching Hospital is the site for the East Lancashire Women's and Newborn Centre and is the largest in-patient consultant led obstetric unit in the North West. There is also a midwife-led birthing unit off the Hospital site in Blackburn.

  • Registered with General Medical Council
  • 1 year of level 3 NICU experience in the UK
  • 6 months experience on the middle grade rota

Desirable

  • MRCPCH-Part 1
  • APLS or EPLS certificate; NLS certificate

Training

Essential

  • Satisfactory completion of previous training with experience of at least 6 months working in Level 3 Neonatal unit

Desirable

  • Previous middle grade experience
  • Six months or more experience of working in Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit in middle grade capacity

Experience

Essential

  • Some experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate doctors
  • Understanding of audit during general professional training
  • Familiarity with evidence based practice

Desirable

  • Management of wide range of conditions in neonatal medicine
  • In addition competence in resuscitation and stabilisation of prems and sick infants
