Job summary
The maternity services at East Lancashire Hospitals Teaching Hospital (ELHT) provide a wide range of birth choices across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. Our services include three successful birth centres, a dedicated home birth service, and a central birth suite for those requiring additional support. All of our birth settings offer excellent facilities designed to provide safe, personal and effective care. We are seeking both experienced and newly qualified rotational midwives to join our hospital and community teams. We take great pride in our comprehensive preceptorship programme for newly qualified midwives and our bespoke induction packages for experienced colleagues joining the Trust.
Main duties of the job
As a midwife at ELHT, you will play a vital role in supporting women, babies and families through every stage of the maternity journey. Deliver personalised care across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods, ensuring the wellbeing of women and babies. Promote health and provide guidance, recognising and responding to physical, emotional and social needs. Assess, plan and implement care that meets individual needs, working collaboratively with other professionals when required. Communicate clearly and compassionately with women, families and colleagues, supporting them through both joyful and challenging circumstances. Contribute to safe practice by maintaining accurate records, participating in risk management, and applying evidence-based approaches. Provide inclusive care that reflects the needs of our diverse communities, including vulnerable families. Managerial Duties (Band 6) Lead and organise daily workload in partnership with the multidisciplinary team. Support ward management and take charge in the absence of senior staff. Welcome and supervise new colleagues, helping them to settle and grow in their roles. Contribute to safeguarding processes and escalate concerns appropriately.
