Job summary
Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes. Carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff. Working as a staff nurse on a busy surgical assessment unit.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for caring for surgical patients requiring admission to the ward. To complete admission paperwork and assess and plan their care. To manage acute surgical patients that may need theatre or assessment form the surgical team. To work alongside a healthcare assistant caring for a team of patients during the shift.

An opportunity has arisen for a staff nurse to join the Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU) at Royal Blackburn Hospital. The shift patterns are internal rotation including night shifts, 37.5 hours per week over flexible days, to include weekends and bank holidays, included as per rota.
The ESU at Blackburn is a busy, modern unit with a professional but friendly team delivering high standards of care. We are looking for highly enthusiastic, motivated and committed staff nurses to join our forward thinking and ever developing team. You should have good communication, numeracy and literacy skills. You should be able to work effectively as part of a team and deal with complex sensitive information in a professional manner.
