The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftsperson, and dedicated support staff. We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Maintenance Assistant to join us.You should be experienced in general property maintenance, groundskeeping, and/or handyman duties.

Main duties of the job

This is a highly rewarding role. Working under the relevant Estates Officer, the successful candidate will embark on a challenging adventure, safely, efficiently, and with patient and staff safety at the heart of their focus.

Working as part of a team, and individually, you will be required to carry out semi-skilled maintenance work within acute and community NHS properties. You will support and assist trade staff to undertake routine maintenance, fault finding/repair, and installation workto allow a safe and fit for purpose environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The successful candidate must be able to self-motivate, work relatively unsupervised, and be a good communicator.A healthcare background would be advantageous but not essential - as specific training will be provided. This post is based at Furness General Hospital.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
