Main duties of the job
As a senior pharmacy technician in medicines management, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care across our wards. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise medicines use, support discharge planning, and contribute to service development through improvement science. You should thrive working outside of the department, creating strong working relationships with other healthcare professionals.
The post-holder will also be responsible for the line management of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants. This will involve the rostering of staff, alongside day to day support and supervision.
Medicines management activity is across all the hospital sites.
Please note this post is for 36 hours per week, and the successful candidate will be required to work on weekends, late nights and bank holidays as part of the technical team rotas.

Lead a team of Pharmacy Technicians and support staff to ensure timely supplies of critical medicines, review of inpatients, medicines reconciliations, interventions, review and re-use of patients own medicines and supply of discharge medications. Ensure medicines storage areas are compliant with medicines management standards. React to the changing needs of the Trust and departmental resource, supporting clinical flow and patient safety.
MAIN DUTIES
o Responsible for the day-to-day management of pharmacy medicines management services at ward-level across all sites.
o Work closely with the Senior Clinical Pharmacist to help best manage the pharmacy provision to clinical areas.
o Provide ward based clinical medicines management duties at ward level, carrying out screening of patients on admission, medicines supply, discharge planning, patient counselling and ward-based medicines management duties.
o Act as a role model to the technical workforce, providing a consistently high level of line management and strategic awareness, supporting the Pharmacy Management Board as a completer/finisher for the pharmacy directorate agenda.
o Be responsible for the provision of staff, making sound and fair decisions. Support the technical team to handle emotionally challenging situations and ensuring the best outcome for patients are at the centre of all decisions made. Be able to make sound critical decisions based on data, evidence, and risk management.
o Be the leader of a team, making decisions autonomously, and escalating to the Lead Pharmacy Technician and or Senior Clinical Pharmacists when necessary.
o Deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Technician when required. Provide support for other Senior Pharmacy Technicians covering leave and absence.
