An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical Engineering Assistant Technician to join a small friendly team based at Furness General Hospital
The department is responsible for the commissioning, service and maintenance of wide range of medical devices used within all areas of clinical care including ventilation, endoscopy, Neonatal and theatre based medical equipment
Please note, although this role is being advertised by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, it will transfer to OneLSC a Corporate Collaboration hosted by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust on 1.11.24. There are no plans to change the location of the role.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include medical device commissioning, service, repair, implementation of regulatory action and safe disposal of devices at the end of life.1) A good knowledge of electro-mechanical engineering theory,2) A logical approach to fault finding on complex electro- mechanical medical equipment3) Proficient IT skills in the use of a database system for maintenance recording and be familiar with the Microsoft office applications suite.4) Knowledge of general medical equipment and medical terminology is desirable but not essential.5) The ability to communicate effectively and build lasting relationships with all members of staff, visitors and suppliers6) Good organisational skills and be able to manage and prioritise their own day to day workload.
About us
We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

- Professional electronics knowledge acquired through ONC/BTEC in electronics, medical engineering or equivalent with additional practical knowledge gained through technical training, and developed practical experience
