Job summary

The Acute Care Team are a 24/7 critical care outreach service who cover the footprint of East Lancashire Hospital Trust and sit within the division of surgery and anaesthetics. The team of ACPs, Non-Medical prescribing practitioners, and specialist vascular access practitioners with varying backgrounds in both nursing and allied health professions are led by a consultant nurse and lead ACP structure who provide direct clinical supervision and guidance in the workplace.

The role of the ACP is to have daily oversight of the team working across all sites and to both manage and lead the team in the response to deteriorating patients, high risk presentations, and recovery programs. The successful applicant will have an open mind to innovative practice and work towards a level of advanced practice which is evolving and braking down barriers to conventional practices.

The trainee program will take an hybrid approach to development within the role and consist of both work based learning and academic study at level 7. This will be facilitated via an apprentice route onto the MSc degree program for Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Central Lancashire where a number of both compulsory and optional modules including clinical decision making, non-medical prescribing and quality improvement will progress the trainee to a level of independent practice.

About us

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute, community and specialist services to the population of East Lancashire and Lancashire/South Cumbria.

Services are provided from two main sites, the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. Acute services are housed on the Blackburn site and include the emergency department, the 32 bedded Critical Care Unit and the acute surgical and medical units. The ED is a trauma unit in the Lancashire Trauma network.
