Job summary
The Older Persons unit is currently a 48 bedded inpatient unit which also has an Older Persons Rapid Assessment/Same day emergency care area for 10 patients to be assessed from the Emergency Department.
On OPU you will be assisting patient's with a holistic approach with their activities of daily living. You will be assisting the team to complete a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment on all our patients over the age of 65.
Main duties of the job
Work collaboratively to provide excellent care in the clinical area as an effective member of the clinical team, ensuring a safe environment for patients and colleagues, taking responsibility for a group of patients, participating in assessments and maintaining appropriate departmental documentation.
- Identify the priorities of nursing care for patients, ensuring realistic goals in care planning, working collectively with colleagues to ensure equipment and resource to deliver excellent nursing care, prioritizing as necessary.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, with safety and accuracy in line with Trust Policy.
- Excellent communication with a variety of stakeholders
- Contribute to setting of standards in nursing care, evaluating the quality of care given to patients, measuring standards of excellent care through evaluation, under the direction of the senior nurse.
- Ability to seek out knowledge of nursing and health, develop new skills and being able to apply that learning and findings to nursing practice.
- Handles complaints by patients, members of the public and colleagues in accordance with Trust Policies and assist the senior members of the team to maintain safe systems of work, abiding by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice, eg NMC Code of Practice.
- Maintains standards of conduct and dress, to ensure confidence with regard to the public, patients and colleagues.
