Job summary

Are you a dedicated, enthusiastic and supportive Registered Children's Nurse keen to develop your skills and become a band 7 manager.

We are looking to recruit a band 7 Elective and outpatient manager who is eager to extend their role and professional development .

The post holder will provide leadership and expert clinical guidance to the team as well as having managerial responsibilities for workforce, HR and finance.

The post-holder will work closely with the Matron and business managers to develop themselves and the service.

The outpatients is located on 2 sites. 2 departments at Burnley General Hospital and 1 department at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The elective day case unit sees both medical and surgical patients and works closely with all specialties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as a role model to all team members in the delivery of a very high standard of specialist research based nursing care, incorporating assessment, planning and implementation of care.

Utilising management and leadership skills, they will demonstrate effective continual operational management and responsibility, incorporating staff management and development, rosters, recruitment and selection, and supervision of students and junior staff. With a key role within the multi-disciplinary team, they will be responsible for developing practice and service within a senior band 7 team supporting the matron.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical

Lead the teams in providing evidence based care to children and their families.

Responsible for assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.

Act as a patient advocate to ensure the delivery of care is focused on the child and family.

Ensure safe use of therapeutic and diagnostic equipment.

For example - Safely set up and maintain Intra venous (IV) pumps.

Ensure all staff are trained in the use of equipment according to the Wards Equipment training matrix.

Ensure safe administration of all medications (including IV) and ensuring accurate drug calculations, in accordance with the NMC Guidelines, Directorate and Trust policies,

Maintain legible, accurate records and ensure the safety and confidentiality of such records.

Ensure the views of carers and service users are monitored and identify and implement actions for change.

Support the sisters/charge nurses in achieving clinical excellence through agreed standards of clinical and organisational activity.

Ensure, when exposed to body fluids, that adequate precautions are taken to minimise the risk of cross infection in relation to the safe disposal of body fluids including blood products.

Managerial

Identify operational issues affecting the smooth delivery of care and develop service improvements to address the issues.

Work with the multi-professional team to identify priorities for clinical service developments and facilitate the implementation of these.

Responsible for monitoring and developing policies in the department.

Act as a role model, providing professional leadership and taking responsibility for the development of others, delegating duties and responsibilities fairly to all grades of staff.

Manage own workload autonomously.

Facilitate regular meetings with staff in order to encourage the exchange and implementation of new ideas.

Responsible for managing the ward budget and developing mechanisms for ensuring care is cost effective.

Authorised signatory for staff extra hours payment and bank/ad hoc staff.

Responsible for ordering and maintenance of equipment.

Lead the recruitment and selection of staff.
