Job summary

This is a rare opportunity for a pharmacy technician who is passionate about ward based services, and is ready to make the next step in their career. Due to retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for someone who is ambitious, self-motivated, and committed to providing the most effective possible service to patients, while maintaining standards and empowering the team around them.

Applicants should possess and be able to demonstrate strong organizational skills, be flexible and forward-looking, as well as the ability to lead and manage technical and support staff.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside the senior clinical pharmacists and the lead pharmacy technicians to drive forward the medicines management agenda. Responsibilities include line management of pharmacy technicians and support staff. You will be a key decision maker when needed, taking responsibility, and responding to any risks, and ensuring processes are in place with a trained and engaged workforce. We are looking for someone to link in with the senior technical team to work on new ways of thinking to develop and grow the technical workforce.

Working on wards and the dispensary will be a key part of this role, and the successful applicant will be involved in the rostering of staff. Use of electronic systems and data analysis will be key aspects of the role.

You will hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, be registered with the GPhC and have completed an accuracy checking diploma, with relevant experience of working in medicines management.

Our team is large enough to cope, whilst being small enough to foster strong relationships. We are looking for a role model, who will demonstrate their ability to adapt, and work as part of a wider team, inspiring and supporting those around them . Weekends, late nights bank holidays are included in this post.

ELHT is a busy hospital, with a range of services supported by the pharmacy. The department has recently gone live with an Electronic Prescribing Record. We have a record for innovation and success, being the first site to go-live with RefertoPharmacy. We work with the latest robotic dispensing, and are always looking for ways to provide the best service for the patients we serve.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop themselves as well as the service they are responsible for, in a friendly and forward-thinking organisation. Management training will be provided.
